About Grammar

Grammar finds spelling, grammar, style and readability problems in your writing and fixes them with one click. The checking itself runs entirely in your browser on your own device: your text is never sent to a checking service, to an AI, or to any third party, and checking costs nothing.

Where your text is kept: by default Grammar saves your current document to your own private Fias storage so it is still there when you come back. You can turn that off under Settings — 'Keep my document in Fias between sessions'. Turning it off erases the stored copy immediately and keeps your text in the browser tab only (it will be gone when you reload). Your personal dictionary and check settings are saved either way. The Clear button next to Import empties the editor and erases the stored copy in one step; Undo brings the text back in the current session.

Getting text in: type or paste directly, drag a file onto the editor, or use Import to open a .txt, .md or .docx file (Word documents are converted to plain text). Documents up to 100,000 characters are supported.

Checking: press Check to analyse the document. Issues appear underlined in the editor and listed in the sidebar, grouped into four categories — Spelling, Grammar, Style and Readability — and you can switch any category off if you don't want it flagged. Click an issue to jump to it; accept a suggested fix with one click, ignore it for this session, or (for spelling) add the word to your personal dictionary so it is never flagged again.

Find and replace: the Find & replace button does a literal replacement across the whole document — optionally matching case or whole words only — in one undoable step. Replacing text clears the current issue list (the positions move), so run Check again afterwards.

Your personal dictionary is listed under Settings, where you can remove a word you added by mistake or empty it entirely.

Bulk fixes: accepting suggestions one at a time is optional — Accept all applies every suggested fix at once and counts as ONE undo, and Undo all rewinds the whole session in one step. The issue list also offers Add all flagged words to dictionary, which asks for confirmation first: unlike edits, a dictionary change is not covered by Undo and is easy to miss, so it is reviewed and reversible only under Settings. Undo reverts the last change, including a bulk accept, a clear, an import, a paste, or a check; plain typing is not an undo step (your browser's own undo covers that).

Note that not every issue has a fix to apply: readability findings (long sentences, dense paragraphs) and some style findings are advisory — they tell you something is hard to read without rewriting it for you.

Improve with AI: this is the one feature that is not local. For a sentence you want rewritten rather than corrected, Improve with AI sends just that sentence to a Fias AI model and offers a rewritten version you can accept or discard. It consumes credits; everything else in the plugin is free.

Finishing: Copy puts the corrected text on your clipboard, and Export downloads it as a .txt file.

The Fias AI assistant can operate the basics for you: putting dictated text into the editor, running checks, applying all suggested fixes (or just one category), choosing which checks run, adding words to your dictionary, undoing (one step or the whole session), replacing text throughout, removing words from your dictionary, copying and exporting. It cannot see which words are flagged, so describe them by rule instead of by name — "add every unknown word that is all lower-case to my dictionary" works, and so does "add the capitalized ones, they are names". It cannot read your document, so it works in bulk rather than issue by issue. It never triggers the paid Improve with AI rewrite, and it cannot change your document-storage setting — those stay your decisions.
